Season of the Witch

Purchased this as a present for my younger sister who's a teenager. She read the book pretty quickly.

This must be a great translation as despite this novel being written in Icelandic, I never felt it had started out life in anything other than the English language. There are no awkward turns of phrase the reader sometimes experiences and in fact Anna Yates translates colloquialisms extremely well.

Some will find this book to be slow and plodding (which it can be) and others will be put-off by the names of people and places (learn to skip them or shorten them) but for those who get by these two aberrations will be rewarded by a finely tuned story. Einar (who has no last name) has been sent to the north of Iceland (think Siberia) by his newspaper in Reykjavik.
